Combating Discrimination and
Requiring Fair Treatment of All Delawareans:
- Equality in Hiring and Promotion for State Police:
As chair of the
Senate Public Safety Committee, Margaret Rose Henry is committed to helping
the State Police recruit, train, retain and promote minorities within the
State Police on an equal footing with those who are not minorities. She
supports the recent report produced by the Minner Administration on how to
address this issue and plans to closely monitor its implementation.
- Encouraging Minority, Women-Owned and Disadvantaged Small Business
Enterprises:
Small companies are the backbone of our economic successes
in Delaware. But minorities, women and the disadvantaged have traditionally
been overlooked in bidding to obtain state contracts. Henry proposed
legislation to create an Office of Procurement to seek out and encourage
these typically neglected businesses.
- Restoring Voting Rights:
Under the leadership of Margaret
Rose Henry, Delaware became the 38th state in our nation to pass legislation
re-instating voting rights to ex-felons of non-violent crimes who have been
deemed by the justice system as having paid their debt to society.
- Outlawing All Forms of Discrimination:
Nothing undermines the well-being of a community more than prejudice and bigotry. Senator Henry recently
co-sponsored legislation to prohibit employment discrimination against
persons on their basis of sexual orientation. A person should never lose
their job due to their race, creed, religion, physical disability, ancestry or sexual orientation
